This proverb reminds us that everyone, even the best, make mistakes, so is better not to become overconfident in our own skills/knowledge/power/abilities, etc.
On the other hand, this proverb reminds us that mistakes do happen and we should be tolerant when others make mistakes.
This japanese proverb is equivalent with the latin dictum "Errare humanum est" (=to err is human).
